1⃣️ What is Bodhi root?
Bodhi root is the seed of the palm tree. It looks like a seed on the surface. It is inconspicuous and rough. When it is cut open, it has a chocolate-colored skin. The inside is white, as delicate as jade, and slightly transparent.
2⃣️ Where does the name of Bodhi root come from?
Bodhi is the transliteration of the Sanskrit word bodhi. It means enlightenment, wisdom, knowledge, and path. In a broad sense, it is the wisdom of cutting off worldly troubles and achieving nirvana. Because Sakyamuni attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, Bodhi means enlightenment and the achievement of Buddhahood.
·Why is the seed called a root?
There is no accurate answer to this question. Legend has it that because this seed is hard, white, has strong vitality and a fragrance when burning, it meets the Buddhist definition of the word Bodhi, so it was named "Bodhi root", which means strong and white wisdom root. According to Buddhist scriptures, chanting Buddha with Bodhi seeds can gain infinite merits. Therefore, Bodhi seeds have become one of the most widely used instruments.
